Mississauga Chiefs

The Mississauga Chiefs was a professional women's ice hockey team that plays in Mississauga, Ontario. The team has played in the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) and after in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). The team played its home games in Hershey Centre and in Iceland Mississauga of the Greater Toronto Area.

The Mississauga Chiefs was founded in 1993〔http://www.whockey.com/team/chiefs/history.html〕 and began in Central Ontario Women's Hockey League (COWHL).〔http://www.dgp.toronto.edu/people/vv1/COWHL/1993-94/index.html〕 The club played several seasons in COWHL. The Mississauga Chiefs joined the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) in 1998-99. The Team adopted the name Mississauga Ice Bears (2000 at 2003) and after are called the Oakville Ice in 2004-05, 2005–06 and 2006-07.〔http://www.whockey.com/team/chiefs/〕 In 2007-08, the club re-organized playing in the Canadian Women's Hockey League CWHL. In 2008, they were the CWHL championship runner-up to the Brampton Thunder. The Chiefs participated in the 2010 Clarkson Cup. In 2010-11, it was announced that the CWHL would reduce the number of its teams to five: The Mississauga Chiefs take name Toronto Aeros, while the intermediates and other young girls level programs continue with the name ''Mississauga Chiefs''.〔the Mississauga Girls Hockey League (MGHL) http://www.whockey.com/team/chiefs/mghl.html〕
